We're searching for host sites for AEA's Graduate Education Diversity Internship (GEDI) Program. Host sites provide meaningful evaluation project work and mentoring to interns. GEDI Interns are among the best and brightest graduate students in the country who are learning through the internship to transfer their strong inquiry skills to real-life situations in organizations, agencies, and firms.

Hosting a GEDI is a unique opportunity to help build evaluation's future through fostering the professional growth of an intern from a background under-represented in the field. A number of host sites have found the GEDI experience so positive as to invite their intern to continue in a part- or full-time capacity upon completion of the internship.

Interns work two days per week, September through June. Finalists are selected by an advisory team based on the applicant's capacity and interests as well as the needs of the site. Sites then interview and select from the most qualified candidates in their region.

    Host site obligations include:

    • Providing a meaningful evaluation internship experience
    • Identifying a staff member with significant evaluation experience to serve as an on-site mentor
    • Paying directly to the intern the $8,000 stipend and to AEA the $10,000 program participation costs

Interested in hosting an intern? Complete the site questionnaire and send your completed material to Gail McCauley at gmccauley@eval.org by Wednesday, April 20, 2016 to participate in this unique opportunity to work with tomorrow's leaders today!

Please note that the Call for Interns will be available online and will be distributed to AEA members and beyond the AEA community in mid-April.

"I saw this as an opportunity to provide and introduce an individual to the evaluation work that we do at my Center, and to provide him/her an experience of conducting evaluations for different types of organizations...Also I wanted to expose the intern to more than the nuts and bolts of conducting evaluations, but also the importance of developing personal relationships and being a critical friend to stakeholders."

-Dr. Maurice Samuels,  The Center for Elementary Mathematics and Science Education, Former Site Mentor and GEDI Intern

    Evaluation 2016
    Conference: October 24-29, 2016
    Professional Development Workshops: October 24-26 & 29, 2016
    Atlanta, Georgia USA

Evaluation 2016 Theme: Evaluation + Design

    Keep design in mind

“Everything we evaluate is designed. Every evaluation we conduct is designed. Every report, graph, or figure we present is designed. In our profession, design and evaluation are woven together to support the same purpose—making the world a better place. This is the inspiration for the 2016 theme: Evaluation + Design. In 2016, we will be diving into this concept looking specifically at three areas—program designevaluation design, and information design” - AEA President, John Gargani.

John encourages you to keep this theme in mind when developing your proposals for 2016! Click here to read more about this year's conference theme.

    What We Are Looking For

We are looking for a dynamic variety of presentations to meet the diverse needs of the AEA members. Our call for proposals comprises all presentation types including panel discussions, expert lectures, roundtables, skill building workshops, ignite sessions, and birds of a feather gatherings. You can learn more about our different session types on the AEA website.

Based on Evaluation 2014 and 2015 survey results, conference attendees prefer 45 minute concurrent sessions over 90 minute sessions, although both session types continue to make gains in popularity. Skill-building workshops, panel discussions, and demonstrations continue to be the most popular session types. Download a quick snapshot of the data in the AEA Survey Summary Report to find more attendee feedback. You can also download the full conference survey report here.

SUMMARY: Data-driven thinker with experience using VAN (or comparable sophisticated database) and the sensibility of a trainer and organizer sought for dynamic coalition serving over 40 501c3 organizations in Wisconsin with a shared commitment to increasing civic engagement among women, youth, and people of color and advancing democracy reform.

About Wisconsin Voices: Wisconsin Voices believes that every voice is worth fighting for. We believe a democracy is judged by its ability to ensure that all citizens can participate and have a say in their government, and a voice in the decision-making structures around issues that impact their lives. We envision a Wisconsin where 100 percent of eligible voters can successfully cast a ballot on Election Day and where people from all walks of life can have their voice heard.

Wisconsin Voices, a 501c3 nonprofit organization, is a dynamic network of over 50 nonpartisan organizations that leverage their collective power to mobilize and empower people, particularly those that make up the New American Majority. Wisconsin Voices works in alliance with State Voices, a national network of 22 state networks consisting of over 700 diverse and talented organizations working for change.

Role of the data and targeting manager: The data and targeting manager’s mission is to enable Wisconsin Voices partner organizations to make data-driven, strategic choices in their program work. The data & targeting manger also serves as an analyst of trends in the larger 501c3 civic engagement community in Wisconsin, specifically providing insight into the behavior, trends, and concentration of the state’s New American Majority.

    SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE :

    • Advise and train partner organizations on the use of voter contact tools and assist them in integrating appropriate voter contact and data tools into their programs, primarily civic engagement, but also related to civic access and representation.

    •  Develop targeting strategy for voter engagement, advocacy campaigns, activist mobilization and other organizing efforts.
    •  Produce reports and other materials needed to track, support, coordinate and identify gaps in collective strategy.
    • Work with partner organizations and the State Voices network to establish and maintain best practices and standards for data collection, data acquisition and preservation.
    •  Administer voter file system for Wisconsin Voices and partners. This includes managing user and security settings; providing technical assistance; and monitoring use of the system to ensure compliance with state and national policies.

QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate for this position will possess many, if not all, of the following qualifications:

    •  An understanding of common direct voter contact programs and at least two years experience in either candidate or issue-based campaigns
    • Strong data management and analysis skills in VAN (or comparable sophisticated database) and Excel skills required. Familiarity with census data, online electoral tools such as Catalist and with other constituent relationship management tools is a plus.
    • Ability to manage several tasks/projects concurrently and prioritize work effectively
    •  Diplomatic, professional approach to problem solving and the ability to think independently and creatively
    •  Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work across multiple communities and in diverse settings
    •  Must be a self-starter; willing to work sometimes irregular hours and to travel as needed

LOCATION: The location of the Wisconsin Voices Data and Targeting Manager position is Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

COMPENSATION: Compensation is competitive and negotiable depending on background and experience, and includes a full benefits package.

To apply, please send resume, cover letter, and salary requirements to jobs@statevoices.org. Please indicate “WI Data Manager” in the email subject line. Resumes will be accepted until the position is filled; however, preference will be given to resumes received by March 20, 2016.

Equal employment opportunity and having a diverse staff are fundamental principles at State Voices, where employment and promotional opportunities are based upon individual capabilities and qualifications without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, pregnancy, sexual orientation, age, national origin, marital status, citizenship, disability, veteran status or any other protected characteristic as established under law.

About State Voices: State Voices is a national network of permanent, nonpartisan, state-based coalitions working to create a more accessible, inclusive, and representative democracy by amplifying the voices of traditionally marginalized and underrepresented communities, often referred to as the New American Majority, and building the strength of the organizations and leaders that serve them.

Since 2008, State Voices has pioneered a new approach to civic engagement and social change at the state- level. By employing collective impact – where change agents from different sectors come together to accomplish shared goals – we strengthen grassroots efforts to achieve solutions that no one group could achieve on its own. In this way, State Voices serves as the backbone organization for our collective impact model in states, guiding the vision and strategy of the network, leveraging national resources, and ensuring coordination and communications.

Our 784 state, local, or national affiliate partners are organized into “tables” in the following states: Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, and California through the San Diego Metropolitan Area table. We also train and support an additional 214 partner groups in “non- table” states through our Tools For All Program.

State Voices provides the organizations in our network with the tools and support they need to help create a healthy and thriving democracy. We advance this work through three (3) national programs: Civic Engagement (voter registration, GOTV, issue advocacy and constituency engagement), Civic Access (voting rights and election administration) and Civic Representation (census, redistricting and “money in politics”).
