American Evaluation Association Conference Abstract
During this session, we will review evaluation practices that embrace shared power and decision-making and advance social justice principles. This includes ¡Milwaukee Evaluation! Inc.’s Culturally Responsive Evaluation Survey, Funder Briefing, and a community-based participatory research project. Through data parties and presentations, ¡Milwaukee Evaluation! engaged more than 40 Wisconsin evaluators in shared analysis to gain buy-in for recommendations from the Culturally Responsive Evaluation Survey, which revealed that most Wisconsin evaluations are conducted without representation and decision-making from those most impacted by a program or policy. In addition, ¡Milwaukee Evaluation!’s Funder Briefing engaged many Wisconsin funders to describe the benefit of shared leadership models in evaluation. Finally, the presenters will review a community-based participatory research article that convened members from culturally specific communities to design and implement research. Discussion at this roundtable will identify characteristics of shared leadership processes and discuss how to influence evaluation practice to redistribute power and share leadership.
